As they have for the past 18 years, the Wawota United Church raised funds with their Time and Talent Auction held on Sunday, March 2.

Approximately 130 people attended the event, which is slightly below the average attendance over the years.

Typically the event draws people from Kennedy and Maryfield though this year it didn't attract quite as many people with an event being held at the Methodist Church in town, while the Kennedy ice show was one where they welcomed home local Olympic athletes Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers.

Despite a drop in attendance the evening was still a success.

The silent auction, which contained 30 items donated by businesses and people in Wawota and the surrounding area, included everything from a basket of preserves to jewelry to knitted afghans.

There were an abundance of items as Dennis Seymour, auctioneer, took bids on 85 items also generously given by businesses and individuals in Wawota and surrounding area.

Final tallies have not been performed, but Linda Birnie, the treasurer at the church, expects approximately $7,000 to be earned off the auction and the supper will also bring in a small sum, had not yet been deduced.

The money raised each year during the Time and Talent Auction is put towards general operating costs of the United Church.
