Though the day was overcast and rain threatened to come pouring down on Friday, June 13, the Wawota Parkland School, grade 9 to 12 physical education class organized a track day for the elementary end of the school.
Rain would eventually dampen the spirits of the day, but until then the youth enjoyed time outside running, jumping, and simply having fun.
"One of their [grade 9 to 12 phys. ed.] requirements was to plan a movement activity, so this is what they chose," teacher Shelby Adams explained. "It's nice because we haven't had track here for awhile and usually go to Maryfield."
"The high school end has had a lot of success in track, this year they brought back three provincial banners and last year they brought back three as well. I think it's really good for the kids to see the high school students' success and get more people interested in track."
Events for the day included various races, the shuttle run, high jump, standing broad jump, an obstacle course, long jump, ball throw, and relays.
Getting younger students involved and interested in track is important and having the older students set an example through running the track day was encouraged by the school.
