The 5th Annual Wawota Rocks Children’s Gala was once again a huge success. The dinner theatre is an event, which welcomes families to the Wawota Town Hall to enjoy an evening of entertainment and fun while raising money for the paediatric brain tumour charity Meagan’s Walk.
The Gala raises money for Meagan’s Walk to honour the memory of a young girl from Wawota, Cienna Friesen daughter of Rochelle and Darren Friesen, who passed away at seven-years-old from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).
The young girl is remembered throughout the year and has inspired “Cienna’s Rocken Runners” who walk in Meagan’s Walk to raise money and do what they can to help others. Over the past four years, this has meant over $45,000 raised.
Tickets for the event were sold for $25 – supper, a theatre performance, and a photo booth session. Additionally there was a silent auction, Chinese auction, face painting, and treasure maps available throughout the evening.
In addition to all of that fun, a very popular feature was the mocktail bar, which whipped up all kinds of concoctions that everyone – young and young at heart – enjoyed.
The theatre portion saw volunteers take to the stage dressed as Disney characters to entertain. The volunteers had also made themselves available throughout the evening for photos with the children who were extremely excited to see them.
A total for this year’s event was unavailable at press.
