It has been 40 years since Terry Fox started his planned run across Canada. He had seen so many suffering with cancer that he wanted to raise funds and awareness about the situation. His Marathon of Hope was cut short after143 days and 5,374 kilometres, as his cancer returned. Although he was awarded the Order of Canada, the Lou Marsh Award and in 1980, he was named Canadian of the Year, and there are more than 30 buildings, highways and schools named after him, what is most memorable is that 40 years later The Terry Fox Run is in more than 30 countries and to date $800 million has been raised for cancer research.
The Terry Fox Foundation has over 80 per cent of funds going to the foundation with a minimal amount for wages and fundraising. It is a great choice for my donation to fight cancer.
