Update on medical services from the Arcola Family Health Clinic

In recent weeks the Arcola Family Health Clinic has received many calls from frustrated area residents regarding the availability of physician services. We would like to provide an update to the current situation and help explain why the wait to see a physician is longer than normal.

There has only been one resident physician, providing clinic and on call services to the Arcola/Carlyle area for the past several weeks. The continuation of emergency services at the Arcola Health Centre has been made possible with the assistance of locums from the Saskatchewan Medical Association, nurse practioners and Dr. Lettie from Redvers. We understand the difficulty people are having accessing care. We will do our best to maintain services for as long as possible.

Additionally, patient volumes at the Arcola Family Health Clinic have increased significantly with the recent closure of the Kipling hospital and the intermittent closures of the Redvers Medical Clinic. Those with emergent needs are being given priority.

Our focus has been maintaining optimal patient care for those requiring immediate or emergency services from both the Arcola Family Health Clinic and the Arcola Health Centre. We ask that residents consider the current physician shortage when determining the urgency of your medical requirements.

We continue to work with patients and Sun Country Health Region (306-842-6870) to maximize the availability of physician services.

Your continued support and understanding is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Sheila Sim
