Highways in the southeast are open again

Highways in the southeast are in better shape than on Tuesday, but winter conditions still exist, according to the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure's Highway Hotline.

Highway 39, including the Estevan truck bypass, was shut down from Midale to the Canada-U.S. border at North Portal Tuesday afternoon. It has since reopened.

Meanwhile, Highway 47 was closed Tuesday from the Canada-U.S. border to the Handsworth Road north of Stoughton. It is open again.

The stretch from Stoughton to the Handsworth Road was the last to reopen, according to the Highway Hotline. Travel is not recommended on Highway 47 from Stoughton to the junction with Highway 1.

Other highways in the Estevan and Weyburn area report that winter conditions exist, with icy or slippery sections.

Travel was not recommended on many southeast highways on Tuesday.

A blowing snow advisory that was in effect was lifted Tuesday night.
