SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - A winter storm warning is now in effect for southeast Saskatchewan, including the Estevan, Weyburn and Carlyle areas.
Environment Canada issued the warning Friday at 7:16 a.m., saying heavy snow is expected with total accumulations of 25-50 centimetres to parts of the southeast.
"A mix of rain and snow on Friday night will change over to heavy snow on Saturday morning," the warning states. This snowfall will continue until Sunday morning.
Local amounts could reach 60 centimetres or more.
Strong winds gusting 70-90 kilometres per hour are also likely Saturday into Sunday, giving very poor visibilities in blowing snow.
There is also a likelihood of freezing rain Friday morning and early Saturday morning.
Conditions are expected to improve on late Sunday as the low pulls away.
Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Road closures are possible.
The other weather advisories have been lifted, including the winter storm watch and the freezing rain warning. Both were issued Thursday afternoon and lifted early Friday.
