Juvenile provincial curling

From Thursday, March 13, to Sunday, March 16, the Carlyle Curling Club will be hosting the 2014 Ramada Hotels Juvenile Open Recreational Championship Presented by the Optimist Clubs of Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan is broken down into eight regions including the Â鶹ÊÓƵ East, Â鶹ÊÓƵ West, East Central, Regina, West Central, Saskatoon, North East, and North West.

Thus, there will be a total of 24 teams attending the tournament as each region will send a men's, women's, and an open recreational team to participate in the event. Overall this means approximately 96 competitors with parents and others interested in viewing high calibre curling to the area.

During this time quality curling will be able to be watched from both the top floor viewing area as well as the main floor viewing area.

Teams will be made up of highly skilled under 18 curlers who will be working towards qualifying for the U18 National championship to be held in Langley/Surrey, B.C. between April 2 and April 6.

Vipers volleyball tournament

The weekend will become even busier as a 17U volleyball tournament will be hosted between the town's of Carlyle and Arcola by the Â鶹ÊÓƵ East Vipers on Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15.

An eight team round robin tournament is being planned which will bring approximately 50 players along with an entourage of parents and their families to the area during this time.

Highly competitive and intense volleyball is expected out of the teams that will be attending.

Recently the Vipers placed 12th in the province out of 22 teams, which takes them to the middle of the pack with high expectations moving into the future.

The scheduled tournament will not affect standings of teams in the province, but will provide a venue for teams to continue to challenge each other before provincials in April which will be held in Saskatoon.

In all Carlyle and Arcola should prepare for an increase in population during the March 13 to 16 weekend. People in the area should also consider taking in an event as the competition within both the curling championship and the volleyball tournament will be high quality youth performances.
