WEYBURN – A Century Farm Family celebration took place at Frank and Joan Klippenstein’s farm in the Brokenshell valley northeast of Trossachs on the August long weekend.
A total of 54 people attended, descendants of those who lived on the farm and their families and significant others.
In 1921, Lawrence Wood Livingstone and his wife Edna moved from the Big Muddy, where Lawrence and his partner Col. Ralph Andros, at their peak, ran almost 1,000 horses on 75 sections, most of which was leased Crown land.
Lawrence and Edna “retired” to the farm with their three-year-old son Ralph. Ralph grew up there and married Evelyn Anderson, and they raised their three children, Joan, Larry and Alan, on the farm.
Larry and Alan moved to Winnipeg, where they raised their families. Joan married Frank Klippenstein, and they had three daughters, Debbie (Bathgate), Diane (Berg) and Donna (Dyck). Their family moved to the farm in 1976 when Ralph and Evie moved to Winnipeg.
Weekend celebrations centred in a big tent with picnic tables and displays, and were spread out over the yard with folks visiting, exploring, playing lawn darts and ladder ball, trampolining and games.
Activities included a balloon popping contest, a scavenger hunt and a wiener roast. By all reports, a good time was had by all.
