Jennifer will be on hand to cover events throughout the summer.

The Observer added a new face to our team this week with the arrival of our Summer Times reporter, Jennifer Chernishenko. The Observer is very excited to have this addition to our team!

Jennifer is currently taking English at the University of Calgary. She will be going into her third year in the fall. Originally from a farm near Edenwold, Jennifer is excited about the opportunity to work on the Summer Times publication. With aspirations of becoming an editor following her degree, she is enthusiastic about what she with learn here at the Observer.

When asked what she will enjoy most about the experience, a number of things came to mind. "I thought that working for a newspaper would be a really good experience. I hope to get real world experience in talking to people, writing and having to review my writing. Learning to work with a serious deadline will be useful too."

"I think the best part of the job will be going to the events, and then writing about them. Also, meeting people and hearing their stories will be really cool."

"I am most looking forward to the Drive-In. I've never been to one before. I'm also looking forward to going to the events in the area. Nothing in particular though. It sounds like there's a lot going on from rodeos to motocross to baseball to all types of celebrations."

The first issue of Summer Times is set to come out on May 18. The publication runs for 16 weeks, right up until the last long weekend of the summer. The paper can be picked up at 'tourist hotspots' in Carlyle, Kenosee, Arcola and Alameda.

If you have a summer time story or an event that you would like to have Jennifer attend, please feel free to contact her at 453-2525 or by email at [email protected].
