About 400 teachers from the Â鶹ÊÓƵ East Cornerstone School Division gathered in the Estevan Civic Auditorium Thursday morning for a one-day study session designed to send a clear message to the provincial government about their frustrations concerning stalled contract negotiations.
A similar Cornerstone study session was also planned for Moosomin while another large group of Cornerstone teachers travelled to Regina to join a group of educators who were rallying in front of the provincial legislature.
This is the first time in 78 years that Saskatchewan teachers have completely withdrawn services.
The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation noted that negotiations among the provincial government the Saskatchewan School Boards' Association and themselves has stalled with the offer from the province coming in with a 5.5 per cent wage increase offered over three years while the STF members are seeking 12 per cent within one year.
The last contract between the government and STF ended in August last year.
