Last year Built 4 Life owner Jenna Jensen decided to host a triathlon at Kenosee Lake with the help of numerous volunteers. The efforts of Jensen and her volunteers led to 48 participants taking part in the event.

This year Jensen is hopeful of bringing in even more people as last year's event proved to be a success.

"It was a lot of fun last year so I decided to do it again," Jensen said.

This year the event is shaping up to be another success and Jensen is excited to see if they might be able to double the numbers involved.

"It's been a slow start [to registering], but we have some already signed up and others who will be, so we already expect a good turnout."

The majority of the day is planned according to the same format as last year with the event being based out of Allison's parking lot in Moose Mountain Provincial Park.

It is open to anyone 15-years or older and there is the option for people to complete the triathlon as either an individual or within a team. The team triathlon lets people who might not be strong in one event or for those who just want to try it out to enter in a three-person relay with each completing a section of the triathlon.

To be held on Sunday, Aug. 24, the triathlon will begin with registration in the parking lot at 8 a.m. followed by the start at 9 a.m.

The triathlon begins with a 500-metre swim as competitors swim out and around a buoy placed 250 metres from shore. Upon returning to land, a 12-kilometre cycling trek winds around Arcola Road, along Confederation Drive, through the village, and back to the main beach. From here cyclists take on a 5.5 kilometre run around Beaver Lake Trail.

"The run is the same as last year, but we didn't factor in the distance from Allison's parking lot to the trail and back and people were saying that it felt like more than 5 km, which it was a little more," Jensen explained.

Following the triathlon Jensen says there will be snacks and drinks offered during the awards which will be given to first place finishers for males, females, and the team entries.

"Hopefully people will stick around longer this year, last year they kind of disappeared right after the awards, but this year we might have music on," Jensen said. "It would be nice to talk to people about the race and how they liked it too."

As it is an outdoor event, Jensen is also hopeful for another perfect day at the lake.

"Last year was a very nice day and I think it makes a big difference when the lake is like glass instead of having to fight waves," she explained.

Cost for the event ranges from $40 for an individual to $90 for a team of three. If pre-registering by Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 Triathlon t-shirts are available for an added $25.

Jensen is also looking for added volunteers as the event is quite large and help is always welcomed.

"We've had a positive response [for volunteers], people who want to be part of it again, but we're always looking for more because there is always something that comes up," Jensen explained.

Registration or volunteering for the event can be done by calling Jensen at Built 4 Life (453-2313), by stopping at the gym in Carlyle, or by emailing [email protected].
