听Lorri Matthewson will convocate on May 11 with her Masters in Community Economic Development and she has big plans for her company.听 One of these steps was to hire Jennifer Sedor, who has a certificate in Executive Leadership for Non-profit Sector, a certificate in Governance in Co-operatives and is working on an Economic Development Designation.听 While Sedor was excited to work with Matthewson, she did have one concern, that being her infant daughter, June.听 Matthewson quickly suggested that June come to work with her mom, something relatively unusual at most places of business.听 June quickly fit right in, sleeping, playing, nursing and has been generally brightening the space since Jan. 21 of this year.听
As part of her commitment to communities, Matthewson was quick to purchase items and create a gift basket, designed to celebrate volunteers. She asked people to drop in and fill in ballots with the names of deserving volunteers.听 The ballots quickly outgrew the tin and had to be moved into a larger cookie jar.听 Beside her regular business activities, Matthewson and Sedor will host small business leadership classes, hold employment and small business forums including one themed, 鈥淗ow to be a Better Boss鈥.
With Easter coming up quickly, watch for Easter eggs hidden around town this week. When you find one ,bring the egg back to the office and you will receive a special treat. Matthewson would like to see this become a yearly event, with other businesses and groups taking part.
Watch for a concert featuring Manitoba Hal at the Theatre, and a musical workshop as well. Tickets will be available at the Sustainability Project.听 Meeting space is also available at low cost for those folks needing a space.听
Drop by any time and check out the Wonder Wall. This is the first year Matthewson has chosen All Saints Church Cannington as her charity of choice. If any of her clients want to show appreciation for the work she has done, this is her charity of choice and a portion of the Sustainability Project earnings will also be donated to this worthy cause.
