With Carlyle's physician, Dr. Cathy Meyer, in the hospital, Sun Country Health Region has been working diligently to ensure there are no disruptions in services to the area.
Heather Tant, the regional director for primary and integrated care for Sun Country Health Region, said people from the area had become concerned when Dr. Meyer became ill about a month ago and began contacting Sun Country's office to find out how this would affect the clinic in Carlyle.
Concerned about the number of people contacting the office, Tant wanted to reassure people that the region will continue to work hard in order to ensure there is be a physician in place to fill Dr. Meyer's position until she is well enough to return to work.
For the past month, locums have come to fill in at Carlyle Primary Care Clinic. These physicians are there in addition to the nurse practitioners, Jeannie Daku and Lois Coffey, who work out of the clinic.
Tant said she hopes people will seek out the nurse practitioners' services as they are valuable members of the primary care team in Carlyle.
She has also been working with the three physicians in Arcola to ensure there are no disruptions in emergency and in-patient services as at Arcola Health Centre.
Dr. Meyer works in rotation at the hospital with the three physicians from Arcola, therefore with her absence, they, along with locums and other physicians, have had to step up to ensure the hospital would not close for any amount of time.
While the region is unsure when Dr. Meyer will be able to return to work, Tant said they remain committed to the continued delivering of services at the clinic in Carlyle.
