On Saturday, March 15, Stoughton was a bustling area with a craft show being held at the Legion Hall. Originally planned to be held in the Stoughton Memorial Hall, venues were changed when it was discovered the pipes were frozen, craft sale organizer Carolyn Chaytors explained.
The craft sale has now been held for three years bringing together local people to showcase their products.
Everything from food spreads and puzzle lamps to jewelry and knitted items were available to those coming through the doors.
In total 20 vendors were available to showcase their specific items and services, which Chaytors felt was important to do because often people in the area need to travel great distances to go shopping. A local craft sale, however, provides an avenue for people to discover local vendors of various items making it easier to find gifts for people or become aware of local services they had not known about before.
This includes JoAnne Howard with Sleek Appearance Laser Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation. Having been working in this field for four years Howard initially took training because she suffered from facial hair, but her options to rid herself of it were only found in the city. Thus, she decided to bring an alternative option to those in small towns across the southeast by offering hair removal out of Carlyle, Oxbow, Carnduff, Moosomin, and Estevan.
The service is not simply directed at facial hair, however, and she has seen success eliminating hair on all body parts including under arms and legs. While her skin rejuvenation treatments help with acne, sun damage, brown spots, and skin redness.
Howard can be found online through her website, www.sleekappearance.com, or her Facebook page.
Another local vendor included Travel Expert, Denise Taylor, with Travel Only. Able to book everything from destination weddings to cruises, Taylor explained her services have been used for years to provide help in planning great travel experiences.
The most popular destinations this year have included Alaskan cruises and trips to New York City.
Taylor can be reached through her website, http://dtaylor.travelonly.com.
Energetic sisters Jaylene Balbar and Odessa Boire, were happy to present their knitted products through Juju-Bean Knit.
The sisters were taught how to knit by their grandmother when they were young, but recently took it up again three months ago. With children of their own they now wanted to knit different items for their kids, but decided it would be a fun idea to travel to different trade shows with each other.
The pair can be found on Facebook where if someone has liked their page Juju-Bean Knit, then they are eligible to win the sisters' monthly scarf give away.
Another vendor, Lea Hemphill of Heward, brought Gold Canyon products from candles to warmers. Unlike many warmers out there the Gold Canyon product is made with a built in timer, which Hemphill explained appealed to her as she has forgotten candles burning before and a warmer with a timer saves her the worry.
In all the trade show was again a success, providing access to items and services not commonly available in a small town, while featuring local vendors many in the community were unaware of.
