Stoughton Pioneer Lodge enjoys Country Fair

This is the third time for this event, and although the crowd was smaller this year, it was a fun time.

There was excitement amongst the residents at the Stoughton Pioneer Lodge on Aug. 28, as they enjoyed the Country Fair.

The weather was not the greatest. It was cool and windy and then the rain came down, but the residents refused to allow a little rain to ruin their afternoon.

Ruth Klatt, the organizer of the Country Fair, debated about cancelling the event, but decided to go ahead as rescheduling takes a great deal of organizing and everyone was well on their way with the animals. Luckily, the rain did not last and the afternoon was a success.

Klatt began the Country Fair to bring the farm to the residents, as many of them are retired farmers, and this was a way she could deliver a farming experience, even if it was only for a short while.

This is the third time for this event, and although the crowd was smaller this year, it was a fun time.

Anyone was welcome to bring their well-mannered pet to the fair. Klatt brought her two terriers.

John and Terri Palmer entertained the residents with a young duck and his friend the Guinee hen. A rooster and chickens were also among the critters. Two goats were part of the herd.

Courtney Dickie came with her 10-week-old kittens, which enjoyed the cuddles from the residents.

Les Griffin brought Joanie the cockatoo. She is very laid back and enjoyed the rides on the resident’s shoulders.

Jeremy and Rhonda Garling came with two ponies, two goats and baby bunnies. One goat is a bottle baby who thinks he should be on people’s laps.

After residents and visitors received refreshments, the animals once again returned home.

Klatt hopes to continue with the Country Fair, but also hopes more kids will take part in the event. The residents love kids and animals, and it is a way to give back to the committee.
