ASSINIBOIA - Residents in Assiniboia will be able to ‘Deck the Halls’ with many Christmas-themed events, offered by the Recreation and Community Wellness committee.

The Recreation and Community Wellness committee is promoting their Snow Angels and Christmas Lights program. Residents who know someone who are unable to clear their driveway and sidewalks can contact the Recreation and Community Wellness committee to arrange a ‘Snow Angel’ to the rescue.

Also, any residents or local businesses that have extra Christmas lights that they are not using are encouraged to donate them to the Recreation and Community Wellness committee.

These donated lights will then be offered free to anyone who stops at the Town Office and needs them for decorating.

The Recreation and Community Wellness committee will even help residents put them on their house, as Paul Tendler has graciously donated his Zoom Boom for the town to use.

A free matinee movie will be featured at the Olympia Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. The 2019 Christmas movie ‘Noelle’ will be on the big screen.

The film stars Anna Kendrick as Noelle Kringle, the daughter of Kris Kringle. It also stars Bill Hader, Ben Kingsley, Billy Eichner, Julie Hagerty and Shirley MacLaine. In the film, when Noelle’s brother Nick is stressed from all the pressure of taking over for their father, he leaves and does not return. She must find her brother and bring him back in time for Christmas.

A Skate with Santa will also be held on Sunday, December 5, at the Assiniboia Civic Centre from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Residents can nominate a neighbour or register their home for the Twinkle Tour by emailing [email protected] before Saturday, Dec. 4. The public will vote homes on virtually and in person.

The Twinkle Tour will tour all the homes on the list during the three evenings on Dec. 14, 15 and 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a horse-drawn sleigh, bus and people mover available for residents at the Kin Hut to enjoy the tour.
