Saskatchewan sets another COVID-19 record, starts listing school outbreaks

As Saskatchewan set yet another record for new COVID-19 cases, the provincial government has now started listing schools with outbreaks on the provincial COVID-19 website.

The new record of 190 new cases in a day eclipsed the 159 set just the day before. One more person鈥檚 death has been linked to COVID-19, bringing the provincial total to 29.

鈥淎 list of all schools with any COVID-19 positive staff or students is now available at聽. Please note that public health will continue to contact families directly if a student or family member is considered a close contact to a confirmed COVID-19 case,鈥 the Ministry of Health said on Nov. 9 in the daily COVID-19 update.

鈥淪chools will be removed from this list after 14 days, which is a standard period of self-isolation for close contacts. Declarations by a medical health officer of an outbreak in a school will continue to be posted at聽. Outbreaks are generally declared when there are two or more individuals with COVID-19 and the transmission likely occurred within the school setting.鈥

On Nov. 9, 16 schools were listed on the outbreak list. There were 60 outbreaks in total on the list.

The new record of 190 new cases brings the provincial case total to 4,087 since the start of the pandemic. The new cases are located in the Far North West (15), Far North Central (1), Far North East (4), North West (19), North Central (15), North East (6), Saskatoon (76), Central West (2), Central East (8), Regina (25), 麻豆视频 West (5), 麻豆视频 Central (1) and 麻豆视频 East (7) zones.

Six new cases have pending residence information. One case reported November 7 with pending residence information has been assigned to the North West zone.

One resident who tested positive for COVID-19 has died: the individual was in their 80s and was from the North Central zone.

Of the 4,087 reported cases, 1,289 are considered active.聽A total of 2,769 people have recovered.

Thirty-seven people are in hospital. Twenty-nine people are receiving inpatient care; one in the Far North West, one in the Far North East, two in North West, six in North Central, 14 in Saskatoon, four in Regina and one in the 麻豆视频 East zones. Eight people are in intensive care; two in North Central, four in Saskatoon and two in Regina.

To聽date, 284,021聽COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan.聽 As of November 7, 2020 when other provincial and national numbers were available, Saskatchewan鈥檚 per capita rate was 188,720 people tested per million population.聽 The national rate was 264,310 people tested per million population.

On Nov. 8, 2,505 COVID-19 tests were processed in Saskatchewan.

On the same day, Manitoba reported 365 new cases and three new deaths. Manitoba has 192 people in hospital, with 28 in intensive care. Manitoba has had 8,495 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19. Manitoba conducted 3,143 tests on Nov. 8 for a total of 288,568 to date.

Alberta posts is numbers later in the day. On Nov. 8, Alberta reported 727 new cases, and six deaths. As of Nov. 6, the most recent update posted, Alberta had completed 1,869,192 COVID-19 tests, and had 31,858 confirmed cases. It had 6,822 active cases as of that date, with 171 in hospital and 33 in intensive care.

On Nov. 9, North Dakota reported 1,160 new cases, 690 recoveries, 10,865 active cases and five deaths. North Dakota had a total of 55,458 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Montana on Nov. 9 reported 427 new cases, 15,771 active cases, with 470 in hospital and 14,322 new tests. Montana had 40,053 cases since the start of the pandemic.
