Labour Day long weekend is here which means there will be increased traffic on Saskatchewan roads and highways as people try to enjoy the last days of summer.聽
In 2019, Saskatchewan RCMP responded to 55 collisions during the September long weekend. Two of the collisions resulted in serious injuries. Fortunately, none of these collisions were fatal.
When motorists follow safe driving practices, such as planning ahead, having a designated driver, maintaining safe speeds and keeping their attention on the road, the risk of being involved in a collision is greatly reduced.聽
Since Harvest is in full swing, motorists can also expect to be sharing the road with farm equipment. Be attentive, be patient and slow down, especially when passing.聽

鈥淲e like to remind people that if they鈥檙e heading out on the highways, they鈥檙e not going to be alone,鈥� said Kwei Quaye, SGI Vice President of Traffic Safety. 鈥淭here鈥檚 going to be a lot of other people on the highways as well, trying to squeeze the last little bit out of summer.聽We encourage drivers to help keep themselves and others safe by driving sober, avoiding distractions, buckling up, and obeying speed limits.鈥�
