REGINA — Saskatchewan continues to release its COVID-19 data in weekly epidemiological reports, with the third release of the report sharing that another large number of deaths have taken place during the previous week .
The most recent report released today includes testing, case number and fatality data from Feb. 20 to Feb. 26, as well as hospitalization data from Feb. 23 to March 2.
The number of deaths occurring in the province related to COVID continues to climb, according to the Ministry of Health’s data, with February on track to be one of the most deadly months of the pandemic.
With 44 new deaths recorded in the report, Saskatchewan has now reported a total of 147 deaths since Jan. 30, with two more days of data left to be shared publicly.
Complete numbers for the month of February will not be available until next week’s report is released, which will cover Feb. 27 to March 5.
Only January 2021 and this past October still top this month’s known data, with a total of 151 and 156 deaths recorded during those months respectively .
Hospitalizations continue to remain at high capacity, with 353 patients currently in care across the province. Thirty of those patients are in ICU care.
Test positivity in lab-performed tests is at 13.6 per cent for the week ending on Feb. 26, down slightly from 14.4 per cent the week prior.
A total of 1,102 new positive cases were identified during the report’s time frame, all of which were identified to be the Omicron variant.
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ West zone recorded the largest number of new cases, with 49 cases, while the Far North East zone recorded the lowest with 9 cases.
A total of 11 new outbreaks were declared in long-term care and home care settings in the province.
Vaccination rate remains stagnate, with 80.3 per cent of eligible individuals over the age of five having completed their vaccination series. Of those 18 and older, 50.7 per cent have received a booster dose.
