“Run on the wild side” with the Moose Mountain Marathon

It was a beautiful morning at Saskairie on Sunday, Aug. 14, a perfect day for a “run on the wild side” at the 8 th annual Moose Mountain Marathon.

Out to enjoy a “run on the wild side” were participants of the 8th Annual Moose Mountain Marathon. The half marathon, 10km, or 5km option winds through the hills of Moose Mountain from Saskairie, down to the flats of the prairie, and back up to the beautiful oasis.

It was a beautiful morning at Saskairie on Sunday, Aug. 14, a perfect day for a “run on the wild side” at the 8th annual Moose Mountain Marathon.

Once again the organizers – Cathy Burton, Eugene Brown, and Lucille Weber – decided to host the event to fundraise for the Arcola School Track team. Additionally, with Quinn Brown and Marlee Cormier volunteering at a water station for the morning a donation on behalf of the Moose Mountain Marathon will be given to them as they are fundraising for an international karate competition in Japan as part of the Shintani National Team.

Each year the Moose Mountain Marathon is enjoyed by running enthusiasts from across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This year the event even drew a participant from Abbotsford, BC.

The day saw two birthdays including six-year-old and youngest participatnt Korbin Hicks who finished a 5km run with a time of 1:27:81 and 25-year-old Carlie Tomac who travelled from Assiniboia to partake in the half marathon which she finished in 2:45:47.

Thelma Snow the eldest participant at 74-years-young finished a 10km walk/run in 1:42:08.

This year’s participant from furthest away was David Kells of Abbotsford, BC.

Runners, walkers, and workers that have been out to each of the eight Moose Mountain Marathons include Cathy Burton, Nora Houston, Roxanne Moreau, Thelma Snow, Elizabeth Birch, Eugene Brown, and Lucille Weber.

“We’re ready to be back next year,” Burton says. “We’re looking at extra running options for next year.”

Burton added that the event will be going into its ninth year and is always the second Sunday in August for those looking to “Run on the wild side” at the Moose Mountain Marathon.

- 19-30 – female: Janelle Scherle (00:24:17)

- 31-45 – male: Jason Smyth (00:36:12:19)

- 31-45 – female: Nicole Lynn Maisonneuve (00:46:18)

- 55 and over – female: Cathy Burton (00:32:17)

10km

- 19-30 – female: Becky Holman (1:08:38)

- 31-45 – male: Devin Brisebois (00:55:04)

- 31-45 – female: Chantel Longman (00:54:10

- 46-54 – male: Garth Herman (1:37:06)

- 46-54 – female: Terra Little (00:51:15)
