Carlyle town council voted unanimously to rename Carlyle's public works building the Roy Olmstead Public Works Building at their Wed., August 19 meeting.
The motion was passed in an effort to recognize Olmstead's legacy of service to the town as both a dedicated employee, and later as an equally committed member of council, before his passing last year.
A new sign has been ordered and a public ceremony will take place at a future date.
Zoning
Four lots on Railway Avenue have been re-zoned as residential lots at the request of the properties' buyer.
Dutch Elm disease
The town has completed this year's annual inspection of trees for Dutch Elm disease.
Private property owners are reminded that they are responsible for removing diseased trees from their properties as soon as possible.
If owners are unable to pay for the cost of tree removal, the town will remove the trees and the cost of removal will be charged back to the property owner(s).
Road improvements
The town has received funding from the province's Gas Tax Fund. This money was used to partially fund local road improvements on Mountain Avenue and Stockton Road.
New subdivision
The Town of Carlyle's road maintenance agreement with R.M. #63 has resulted in the R.M. receiving compensation for road damage that occured during the construction of the site of the new subdivision. This expense will be added to the cost of the lots in this area.
Council passed a motion to accept a revised quote from Sask Energy regarding the new subdivision.
Council is also currently working on proper grading of the lots in this area.
