In the fall of 1919, a group of World War I veterans formed the Kisbey Local of the Great War Veterans Association. Their first order of business was to outfit a club room with a piano and reading materials. Their second was to secure the memory of comrades who had not returned by erecting a memorial on land donated by the CP Railway. Today, the Royal Canadian Legion carries on that responsibility.
Residents of Kisbey and area, including the Royal Canadian Legion, Rebekah’s, Girl Guides, Air Cadets, RCMP and Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation will come together on Saturday, November 11 to honour the more than thirty local residents lost in both World Wars, as well as those who served and continue to serve in other times of need.
Services will commence at 2:30 p.m. in the Kisbey Recreation Centre. All are welcome and the Kisbey Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion encourages those who cannot attend to observe the day in their own way, including observing two minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m.
