REGINA — Regina mayor Sandra Masters released her lip-sync video to the public Monday, claiming to have lost the vaccine challenge with neighbouring city Saskatoon but winning the unofficial video battle over fellow mayor Charlie Clark.
Upon tallying the numbers at the end of July and revealing that Regina had fallen short of a second victory, Masters graciously admitted defeat — but not totally.
The video features the 1980s hit “It Takes Two” by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock, as both an homage and public service announcement reminding residents that two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are best.
“We want residents of our cities to be safe and healthy,” said Masters of the challenge. “If this video gets the message out to more people to get fully vaccinated, then we’ve done a good thing.”
Masters filmed her performance at several different locations in the Queen City, including Victoria Square Park, with professional production company TandeMX Visuals — a step above Clark’s lip-sync video shared after the first round of the challenge.
The video features members of the Riders Cheer Team, Regina fire department, Regina Police Service, new RCMP graduates, Saskatchewan Health Authority workers, and, of course, Gainer the Gopher at Mosaic Stadium.
“I love a contest and I plan to win at losing,” said Masters, following the announcement in July.
After the second vaccine challenge between the two cities, which saw a total of 121,875 doses delivered, public health shared that Regina is currently about 70 per cent fully vaccinated.
“I would like to see 85 per cent double vaccination in Regina,” said Masters. “The goal is to keep everyone as safe as possible, so we need everyone 12 and older to get a double dose of the vaccine.”
Continuing pop-up vaccine clinics are available across the city, with locations and dates shared online through the City of Regina’s .
And, while you wait in line for a vaccine, Mayor Master’s debut lip-sync video is available to view on her and profiles.
