REGINA — Construction season is officially on in Regina.
In a news release Tuesday, the City of Regina announced its investment of $118 million in transportation, water, wastewater and drainage infrastructure in the community.
A host of projects are scheduled for this year, including some multi-year projects that are now under way. One of those cited is the Winnipeg Street Overpass and North Central Drainage projects.
The city states that more construction is set to begin in May and into the summer and fall.
Also planned is residential road renewal with over $16.5 million in dedicated funding this year to improve 18 kms of residential roads.
This is the seventh year of Regina’s Residential Road Renewal program, which has seen an investment of $93.1 million and improved 166.8 km of residential roads. The work this year will push that total over $100 million, according to the city, with nearly 200 kilometres of local roads improved.
Drivers in Regina are urged to be careful on the streets during construction season and urged to plan ahead, slow down, and drive safe.
“2022 is another busy year with many projects, but during our short construction season, we make every effort to minimize impacts on residents through extensive planning,” says Kim Onrait, executive director of Citizen Services, in a news release. “Our team works collaboratively to coordinate plans, and to balance resources, budgets and priorities. We strive to be efficient and cost effective while also reducing the impact to residents and drivers.”
“Investing in municipal infrastructure is critical to the development of our city,” said Mayor Sandra Masters. "We need to ensure our existing infrastructure is well maintained, while continuing to make strategic investments to support economic growth and building a more vibrant, safe and sustainable community."
