The RCMP says highway conditions remain treacherous Wednesday night.

REGINA - The Saskatchewan RCMP is asking motorists to remain off the highways in southeast Saskatchewan due to a powerful storm that slammed into the region on Wednesday.

The Saskatchewan RCMP has sent out a couple of advisories Wednesday evening. It says it received more than 50 calls in a one-hour span Wednesday evening, requesting assistance related to road conditions. The RCMP says callers report driving conditions are deteriorating rapidly and vehicles, including semis, are stopping on the side of highways.

Officers are currently responding to a report of a collision between a semi and a charter bus in the eastbound lane of Highway 1, just east of Sintaluta. Initial reports, according to the RCMP, are that one adult male was seriously injured in this collision. Highway 1 is currently closed in this area and drivers are asked not to travel in the area.

Drivers are advised that if they require assistance from police, tow trucks and/or other emergency services, they might experience delayed response times due to the extremely unsafe conditions.

If you are required to stay in your vehicle, please remember to keep hazard lights on and conserve fuel.

Given the current weather conditions and forecast, Saskatchewan RCMP continues to remind drivers to check the weather forecast and road conditions/potential closures before departing.

"If you decide to travel, ensure your vehicle has lots of fuel and that you have extra warm clothes, snacks, water, a phone charger and a snow shovel on hand. Also consider stocking your vehicle with traction mats, a tow rope or chain and a booster cable."
