RM of Moose Creek ratepayers went to the polls on May 2. A total of 280 voters from the area let their views be known about whether or not they supported the continued paving of Highway 361.

A ruling was passed down from the Court of Queen's Bench to hold a referendum on the much debated topic of Highway 361 on Feb. 18 of this year. Ratepayers were asked to vote on the following resolution. "BE IT RESOLVED that the RM of Moose Creek #33 not participate in any agreement nor provide any funding for the upgrading and paving of the portion of the Provincial Highway #361 within the jurisdiction of the RM of Moose Creek #33."

A ratepayer vote 'for' this resolution meant in fact that the ratepayer was voting to cancel the Highway #361 paving project. A total of 76 votes 'for' the resolution were received.

A ratepayer vote 'against' this resolution was a vote to continue with the Highway #361 paving project. A total of 204 votes 'against' the resolution were received.

With more than 72 per cent of voters indicating continued support of the project, the RM and its ratepayers have a clear answer to the future of Highway 361.
