Quota International of Weyburn hosted the 74th Annual District 11 (Western Canadian) Conference for Quota International, on Apr. 23-25.The conference was presided over by Governor Bev Jaeger of Medicine Hat. Rev. Catherine Harper from the All Saints Anglican Church gave the invocation, and Mayor Debra Button brought greetings from the City of Weyburn. Judy Goulet, Canada Area Director brought greetings from Quota International. Karla Kennedy, President of Quota International of Weyburn welcomed attendees from Penticton, Medicine Hat, Wainwright, Estevan, Weyburn and Winnipeg.The guest speaker at Saturday's luncheon was Leah Peterson, an autism consultant for Sun Country Health Region. Leah spoke about the increasing number of children with autism, the challenges they and their families face, and some of the programs that have been initiated to help the children and their families.The Saturday evening banquet began with social entertainment by Jerry Goski on the accordion. In keeping with the conference them of Quolympics, the guest speaker was Cathy (Yeaman) Mills who spoke of her amazing experience of volunteering at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Mills, previously from Weyburn, has worked for 30 years as an educator in and around the Northeast (Melfort) and Saskatchewan Rivers (Prince Albert) School Divisions.Since her retirement as a teacher and vice-principal in 2008, she has done contract work consisting of research, report writing and staff development for the Ministry of Education, Saskatchewan School Boards Association, Saskatchewan Rivers School Division and Saskatchewan Educational Leadership Unit at the University of Saskatchewan.The officers for 2010-2011 for District 11 were installed: Theresa Girardin of Weyburn, Governor; Valerie Hall (Estevan), Lt. Governor, and Sandi Schweitzer (Weyburn), Secretary-Treasurer.Quota was then treated to some Royal Remarks from Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth the Two'th, a.k.a. Donna Sanders. Sanders, a native of Weyburn, and an operating room RN by trade, has been performing Her Majesty the Queen since 1978. She lives in the Queen City, and after entertaining friends and relatives for years, she went professional in 1998.The evening ended with a reception for the new Governor, Theresa Girardin, with music provided by Joe Weisgerber and Vic Messer.
