Provincial election slated for Oct. 26

At the request of Premier Scott Moe, Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty has dissolved the Legislative Assembly and issued a proclamation directing the issuance of the writs of election, commencing Saskatchewan’s 29th General Election.

Election day for Saskatchewan’s 29th general election is on Oct. 26.  Details regarding the Saskatchewan election can be found by visiting https://www.elections.sk.ca/.

The election campaign will last 28 days – the shortest length of time possible.

There are 61 seats in the Saskatchewan Legislature. When the election was called, the governing Saskatchewan Party had 46 seats, the opposition New Democratic Party held 13 and there were two seats that were vacant.

Other registered parties in the province include the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan, the Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan (formerly Wexit Saskatchewan), the Saskatchewan Green Party and the Saskatchewan Liberal Party.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Saskatchewan Party and the NDP were the only parties to have announced a full slate of 61 candidates. The NDP reached the 61-candidate mark on Friday when they nominated the final 12 candidates
