Weyburn RCMP busy with two-vehicle accident

The Weyburn RCMP were called out to a two-vehicle accident on Sunday afternoon, in which a total of five people were injured.The police were called out around 12:30 p.m., to the accident scene about six kilometres east of the city on Highway 13. Upon investigation, police determined that the driver of a pickup truck lost control and slammed into the side of a fifth-wheel camper trailer.The Weyburn Police Service were called out to assist for a time, and the Weyburn Fire Department and EMS were also called out, with the Jaws of Life required to extricate the passengers of the truck. A doctor from the Weyburn General Hospital also attended the scene, and five people were taken to hospital in Regina; all are reported to be in stable condition.The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the RCMP.The Weyburn Fire Department was also called to a structure fire in the RM of Weyburn on Saturday. The building, a work shop, was totally destroyed in the fire, and an investigation is underway as to the cause of the fire.The Fire Department also attended a vehicle fire just off Government Road on Friday; minor damage was done to the engine compartment.The Weyburn Police Service charged two males on June 25 with a 2009 break-and-enter to the Weyburn Dairy Queen; both males are being sought by the police.City police had two separate reports of tire slashings in the past week, and charges were laid in both cases. The first incident arose on July 1, when a resident called in to report both front tires of his vehicle had been slashed; a Weyburn female has been charged for that offence. Later, on Saturday, police were called to a local hotel where a patrons tires were slashed. Police talked to a number of suspects, and one of them admitted to police to committing the offence, and the suspect was charged with mischief.Police are investigating damages that were done to a city home sometime Saturday night.Two separate complaints came in on July 1 about threatening text messages; one was made by a male that his former girlfriend was threatening him by text messages; a separate complaint also came in the same day of harassing text messages. Both of these cases remain under investigation.Also on July 1 police received a call from a local gas station that a motorist filled up with gas and left without paying. This case is still under investigation.On June 30, police received a report that a residents front window was shot out by an air gun.On June 29, two reports came in about thefts. In one case, a work truck was broken into and tools were stolen out of a back toolbox. In a separate incident, police were called to a vehicle break-in where its side window was broken out and damage was done inside the vehicle. These matters are both under investigation.The same day, a concerned resident contacted the police that underage youth were using false ID to get into a local bar. The bar was contacted, and stated they would keep an eye out for any fraudulent identification.Police received a call about a break-and-enter on June 28, where a suspect was still inside an apartment when the resident returned home. The suspect was 23 to 25 years old, was five-foot-six in height, had a slender build and black moustache, and was wearing jeans and a black hoodie.On June 23, police received a call that youths were jumping from a bridge into the Souris River. Police advise the public that this is a very unsafe practice.The same day, police had a complaint that threats were alleged by texting. Any threat to a person is a criminal offence, including those made by electronic means.Police received a complaint on June 21 that used needles were found in front of a local business. Residents are encouraged to call the police any time they see objects of this nature.There was a complaint the same day of a hit-and-run accident at the Detour Bar and Grill; this matter is still under investigation.City police responded to a collision by a vehicle with a moose on Highway 39 near the Ramada Inn on June 18.The collision occurred in the early evening, and the cow moose had to be destroyed while the motor vehicle received extensive damage. Police advise motorists to use extreme caution with wildlife, especially moose, as they are very dark and their eyes do not reflect light when headlights shine on them.The city police received a complaint from a local business on June 18 of an internal theft, as one of their employees was charged with theft over $5,000.Police charged two adults on June 12 for thefts from motor vehicles that occurred over the past several months. The investigation into these matters is continuing.City police investigated a complaint on June 10 about the theft of a quad seat from a local business, and they are continuing to investigate this matter.Two Weyburn males were held in custody in Regina following a disturbance on June 5 at a local hotel. The two men, aged 32 and 34 years, were causing a disturbance and ended up breaking a display case in the hotel.One of the accused then damaged a police vehicle while being transported to the police station. The two appeared in court in Regina, and matter was adjourned to Weyburn for June 8.Police have received several complaints of people riding quads and motorbikes on city property. The public is advised it is an offence to operate these off-road vehicles within city limits.From June 14-21, police had 128 complaints called in, and following in the week of June 21-27, there were 124 calls, many of them alcohol-related.
