REGINA — The Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils is bringing iLumiDance by Rainbow Dance Theatre to 26 Saskatchewan schools beginning Oct. 17.

The interactive performances feature three dances with electronic costumes, props, and puppets.

The light wire technology used for the performances combine the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with professional dancers.

Dancers will reveal how they use STEM design processes to create and innovate new dance art expressions.

Demonstrations of the tech are part of the experience. Students will participate and learn about how engineering design and coding help create the dances. Some students will even be invited up to create their own “ilumidance” using a five-foot-tall light wire puppet.

Please see the schedule below and check with OSAC and the school contact for verification and inform them of performances you plan to attend.

OSAC is an umbrella organization bringing live musical and theatre performances, visual arts exhibitions, workshops, and other events to community art councils and school across the province.

Reviews of iLumiDance from teachers in B.C. say their students were mesmerized. A teacher at Champlain Heights Elementary in Vancouver said iLumiDance was the best-received performance they’ve ever had — by far.

OSAC is asking that those planning on attending performances of iLumiDance get in touch with the school contact to RSVP.
