A social distancing gathering set up by a restaurant in Carievale should have been a no-go, according to the province and public health, for disobeying restrictions set out by the province鈥檚 chief medical health officer.
The privately organized event took place on April 26 and included a parade of classic cars and food prepared by Tailgate Dining.
Social media posts showed large groups not adhering to social distancing guidelines which led Saskatchewan health officials to comment on the event. They said it was not appropriate for a parade to take place at a time when the province is banning gatherings of more than 10 people to prevent further outbreaks of COVID-19.
Premier Scott Moe later said in a press conference he found it deeply disappointing on a number of levels that an organization would hold an event given where the province is in the fight against COVID-19.
Sgt. Warner Ignatiuk of the Carnduff RCMP said there were no charges or fines for those involved in organizing or attending the event.
鈥淲e went about in the sort of way of educating rather than laying fines. One of our members had been present at the time and they (the people) were exercising physical distancing. At the time we were present there was no wrongdoing,鈥 said Ignatiuk.
