The 2020 Remembrance Day service will be quite different from the usual program, which under normal circumstances would be held in the Carlyle Elementary School.

This year, due to COVID-19, the service will be held at the cenotaph. It will be a very short service, starting at 10:45 a.m. We are fortunate this year to have the White Bear FM station broadcast the service so people can listen in their cars.

The directives we have received from dominion command are that the number attending must be very small, basically limited to the legion members, and everyone must be masked and practise social distancing.

There will be no wreaths laid in the traditional way.

Anyone wanting to lay a wreath should get in touch with Wendy at 306-453-6174.

These wreaths will be laid before the service and acknowledged at the service. We are trying to do the best we can under the circumstances so I hope people will understand.

There is also the option to watch the Remembrance Day service from Ottawa. We are still trying to finalize the plans for the service and we should have more information next week.

The poppy campaign will also be different. We are hoping that some of the businesses will still have poppy trays but with the rules for sanitizing it may be more difficult for many. The cadets are not allowed to go door to door with poppies this year so this may make it more difficult for some people to get a poppy.

Nothing is ideal. This year it is a struggle for everyone.
