I moved to Carlyle in May 2001 after an unexpected career move with my husband and three young children in tow.

I remembered we rented a beautiful farmhouse and yard so we could just wait until the market settled down a bit. Oh, that is so funny to think about now!

Although I am a teacher, our family situation lent itself to my attempting to home educate our oldest. The freedom we had to volunteer and travel and learn in different places had me home school for 17 years. Crazy, I know!

Meeting people and having our family a part of the community was still particularly important, so we put our three children in many after school activities and ended up meeting some amazing people. I still love the fact that although Carlyle is in the centre, there are wonderful, unique communities close by.

The economy boomed and the community was thriving in so many ways. Schools, businesses, government, recreation, churches, sports, art, music and entertainment; Carlyle and area has it all.

If you know me well, you know I love to help out but hate to be in the limelight. I prefer to just stay behind the scenes and encourage people I come into contact with every day. So many people in Carlyle and area are already accomplishing huge feats. If I could take part in everything, I certainly would (ask my family).

Maybe that is why I thought I would try my hand at freelancing for the Carlyle Observer.

Trying to keep up with everything going on is near impossible, but I so enjoy having the time to flip though the crisp pages of the Carlyle Observer to see the joy of the seasonal events, the ribbon cuttings, donations being given, sales, engagements, sports victories…Oh, I could go on and on.

I believe everyone has a story, and the sharing of that story can bring love and hope to us all. Because who doesn’t need a little hope and love? To share your story, contact me at [email protected].
