On May 1st the Carlyle Rental Centre and Kelly's Hotshot and Trucking Service opened the doors of their new building.
They have left Highway 13 for 8th Street west, just north of the motocross track.
Kelly and Susan Rekken are excited to have the new building as it was something they had always talked about.
"As time went on we got into the trucking industry and hot shotting, and just had to move to a larger facility," Kelly explained. "We decided to build our own rather than lease."
"We had the opportunity and capitalized on it."
Though the project had been on the Rekken's minds for a number of years, they were able to finally move forward with the plans and the project began in July of 2012.
"It's been a process," Susan laughed as she explained the business continued to operate during their move to the new building.
Therefore the Rekken's and their employees are still in the process of organizing the new building. Once everything is in order and they have time to make plans, though, they will be hosting a grand opening. They are not yet sure when it will be as of yet.
"We look forward to serving our customers in the new facility and it's business as usual for us here," Susan exclaimed.
So far the Rekken's are enjoying the new building.
"It's good. We had grown out of the other one and it's nice to be in here and have some space," Kelly stated.
Rekken's first started their business in 2003, opening on June 1st, because they felt there was a need for a rental service.
"As time went on we diversified," Kelly explained.
They rent everything from power tools to lawn and garden equipment to oilfield equipment, vehicles, and construction. Hot shotting and trucking became a natural evolution of the services the Rekken's offered.
Having realized that renting equipment was becoming popular, the Rekken's seized the moment 10 years ago and established a rental centre in the area. Becoming more economic to rent equipment than own it, the Rekken's decided they could provide this service and have been working hard ever since to keep up with demand.
Kelly, Susan, and their children (Kaylan, Kelsey, and Bjorn) are all very much involved with the business and enjoy working alongside the other employees. They hope to see everyone soon for any rental needs.
