The message was clear. Impaired driving shatters lives. That was the message given to students at Gordon F. Kells High School on Monday, March 28th. The 40 minute presentation provided by Mothers Against Drinking and Driving (MADD) included three concurrent stories of people who choose to drink and/or smoke pot and then drive, and the shattered lives that they left behind. The large-screen multi-media presentation included true stories from young people who are real life victims of these accidents.

MADD chapters exist throughout Canada. The MADD organization travels across Canada providing multi-media assembly presentations to high school students. Rahul D'cunha from MADD states that his experience "has been really been a great experience, especially in small towns like Carlyle. The response has been excellent and we are really happy to be able to provide this message to the youth. Our goal is to provide students with this message free-of-charge. In this particular situation, Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority sponsored this presentation."

On average, every day in Canada, 200 people are injured and four people are killed in an impaired driving crash. One in every three of these preventable accidents includes a young person under the age of 25. Road crashes are the number one cause of teen death in Canada with alcohol being a factor in 45 per cent of these cases.
