More than 100 tickets handed out during traffic blitz in Estevan this week

More than 100 summary offence tickets were issued during a two-day traffic blitz in Estevan this week.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service has released the results from the two-day traffic blitz in Estevan this week.

A total of 106 summary offence tickets were issued. The infractions included:

  • Failing to stop at a stop sign or traffic light: 19;
  • Speeding: 18;
  • A driver or passenger failing to wear a seatbelt: 9;
  • Distracted driving, such as cellphone use: 14:
  • Vehicle Equipment Regulation Act offences: 27; and
  • Other offences under the Traffic Safety Act: 19.

Also of note, officers issued three 72-hour driver’s licence suspensions to drivers found to have low blood alcohol or drug concentrations. Criminal Code impaired driving charges are pending for the results of a blood sample for one driver. Two vehicles were impounded in conjunction with the licence suspensions and a third was released to the registered business owner. 

Four child car seats were inspected and one new child seat was provided to a motorist during the project. 

Nineteen commercial vehicle inspections were conducted with 31 written warnings issued for defects identified during inspection.

A total of 35 officers and civilian staff representing municipal police agencies, the RCMP, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Rail Police, Saskatchewan Government Insurance and the Ministry of Finance participated in the two-day traffic enforcement project.
