People perused the vast number of items to be won with four general raffle tables and a ladies raffle table set out at the 12th annual fundraiser dinner and auction held by the Moose Mountain Wildlife Federation on Saturday, April 5.

The Moose Mountain Wildlife Federation held their 12th annual fundraiser dinner and auction on Saturday, April 5, at Prairie Place Hall in Arcola.

A total of 225 people attended the event to help raise money for the club which has an active presence in Arcola, Carlyle, Kisbey, Lampman, and Stoughton.

The board includes club president, Clay Champman, the secretary/treasurer, Bill Brown, and membership chair, Kevin Dyke. Area representatives include Jim Brown (Carlyle), Harry Laurent (Arcola), Robert Duncan (Kisbey/Lampman), and Dan Coderre (Stoughton).

The Federation has given much to the area. They have stocked trout ponds in the area and have released 1,200 pheasants in the area over the years. They have supported youth going to wildlife summer camps and support five bursaries to grade twelve students, one within each of the communities mentioned above.

The Federation provides financial support to Ducks Unlimited, Moose Mountain Water Management Corp., Provincial Conservation, and the Moose Mountain Wildlife Rehab and Release effort.

In addition to these various ways they give back to the community they are also in the process of establishing archery ranges in their clubhouse in Arcola and at G.F. Kells. Currently they are looking for people to become instructors to run the programs.

The dinner and auction held on April 5 was another success. Although final numbers have not been discerned the group was confident in their ability to fundraise as many people in the area are very generous.

The generosity came in both the form of those bidding on items and buying raffle tickets, while much support came from the communities who donated the items.

There were a total of 40 live auction items to be bid on, including their big ticket item a "Fly-in Pampered Fishing Trip for Two" at Black Bear Island Lodge. Other items included signed Roughrider prints and jerseys, animal carvings/statues, firearms, and paintings.

The silent auction consisted of 43 items, while numerous raffle tables meant great prizes could be won.

This year's Master of Ceremonies was the Arcola mayor, Harry Laurent, while the auctioneer was Chad Eaton.

Being an active part in these communities they always welcome new members and hope to continue providing people with opportunities associated with hunting and fishing, as well as ensuring the abundance of wildlife in the area.
