Moose Creek Regional Park has lots to offer to the summer vacationer or anyone looking for a place to spend a relaxing summer afternoon in the outdoors.
The park is located on Grant Devine Lake (formerly named Alameda Dam), which was built in the 1980s to provide flood protection to communities along the Souris River.
The park offers boating, camping, fishing and golf, as well as hiking trails and a great view of the prairie landscape it is set in. It is located east of Alameda, with accesses from Highways 9 and 18, approximately 50 kilometres from Estevan.
The golf course is a nine-hole grass green course that is well maintained and features two sets of tee off boxes for golfers of every skill level. The first and last hole both require well placed tee shots over a water-filled ravine.
The reservoir is great for boating, watersports and fishing, and runs for 23 kilometres. At full supply level, it reaches depths of 35 metres. There is a well-maintained beach and boat launch and a fish cleaning facility for the day’s catch.
The park is a very popular spot in the southeast of the province and is used by people from many area communities. There are 195 seasonal sites and 61 spots for regular camping.
The park is having a busy year; park manager Andrew Sinclair feels it is the busiest he has seen it in his four years there and the golf course is also having a very good year as well.
