The new director of the Cornerstone Family and Youth (CFY) in Carlyle was ecstatic on the phone to explain both the details of a recent donation as well as the programs offered.

As a registered nurse working at the Moose Mountain Lodge, Carli Wollbaum was just looking for something a little bit more to get her involved in the community. Not sure if scheduling would be an issue, she was thrilled to get the position and now loves this role.

Fuel Up for a Cause is held once a year at the 麻豆视频ern Plains Co-op鈥檚 gas bar and convenience store in Carlyle, as well as Estevan and Oxbow, and one local recipient is chosen to receive the funds.

鈥淒ecia, one of our staff suggested Cornerstone Family and Youth and it is a great organization to give to,鈥 said Tanis Armstrong. Armstrong manages four gas station locations in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan.

鈥淲e donate 10 cents for every litre pumped in one day and this year we raised $1,655.鈥

Wollbaum described the current Tots Playtime program available to moms and tots with Facebook registration to account for limited space and COVID precautions. They are currently located in the main OneChurch building at the west end of Railway Ave. but hope to confirm use of the former Shockwave building.

CFY successfully runs a girls鈥 group which is a peer to peer mentoring program where young women in Grades 5-12 can grow to trust their small groups. It is an open support channel to roundtable discussion, activities and art for them to bring forth feelings and emotions. This program runs October-June and starts officially Oct. 28 from 6-7 p.m. with a paint night. Please register ahead of time on the Cornerstone Family and Youth Facebook page.

Immensely grateful for the donation, Wollbaum said, 鈥淲e don鈥檛 know if we will still be eligible for grants or even how many can/will participate with COVID, but we now have so many additional costs to keep the programs going and keep everyone safe. This extra money will help so much with supplies for sanitation and organization.鈥
