聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The village of Kisbey will be celebrating Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 9 as The Queen becomes the longest reigning monarch in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Queen Victoria who ruled from 1837 to 1901 had previously been at 63 years and seven months, or very specifically, 23,226 days, 16 hours, and 23 minutes Macleans magazine explains of royal officials鈥� calculations.
听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Victoria鈥檚 great-great-granddaughter, will pass this at 5:30 p.m. in Britain on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 Although there won鈥檛 be a Commonwealth-wide celebration, the Monarchist League of Canada has asked communities to partake in the historic day by hosting an event celebrating history in the making. Larger celebrations across the Commonwealth will be held next year as The Queen has a 90th birthday.
听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 The Village of Kisbey, with help from the local Rebekahs, will host a luncheon for all to mark the occasion at the Kisbey Rec Centre.
听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 鈥淲e will be having open faced buns, short bread, and more,鈥� Verna Reed with the Rebekahs said. 鈥淭here will also be entertainment during lunch; we鈥檙e just finalizing who will be there.鈥�
听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 The luncheon will begin at noon with a welcome by Mayor Kalvin Nankivell, followed by a proclamation by Reeve Paul Cameron, and visiting dignitary MP Ed Komarnicki.
听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 鈥淲e鈥檙e encouraging people to come in office attire as well,鈥� Reed explained. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an occasion to dress up a little bit more than usual.鈥�
听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 There is no charge for the luncheon and everyone is welcome. Though they will be taking a silver collection at the door to help cover costs of the event it is not necessary.
听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 Kisbey joins over 100 other communities organizing an event on Sept. 9 in celebration of The Queen.
