The rain subsided and brought forth a sunny Canada Day, which was enjoyed by all. Found at Kisbey Recreation Centre was an amassed crowd of all ages to enjoy the activities of the day.
Though last two years of events were held specifically by the Fire Department, Rob Cobb explained that it is a large undertaking and that help was needed, thus, the third annual Kisbey Canada Day BBQ was held by the local Fire Department, Rebekahs, and Elks as a fundraiser for their groups and the Kisbey Recreation Centre.
The day began with Eli Barsi, who is originally from Kennedy, perform alongside her husband John Cunningham. Here she performed a half an hour of music before having to pack up in order to get to Kenosee Lake for another performance.
Barsi and Cunningham's set focused on Canadian artists, which included a variety of covers but some of Barsi's own material as well.
Entertaining both as an artist, but in the way they interact with the crowd, those who were there for this early morning performance thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Barsi was then followed by the local group, The Happy Wanderers. They played through lunch and though many were tapping their feet along to the beat, their music encouraged a few couples to take to the floor to dance.
Inside the Rec Centre a Chinese auction could be found as well as a representative for STARS who had teddy bears and model helicopters for sale.
A money tree was also set up, with people buying a leaf for $2. Inside each leaf was a monetary amount ranging from coins to the large prize of $50.
Numerous children's activities were held throughout the day including face painting found inside the Rec Centre, while the three-legged race, potato sack race, balloon toss, egg race, and tug of war were held outside.
Kids could also find two bouncy castles outside, while the concession was open with snacks and volunteers were making cotton candy.
As children ran and played one was overheard yelling that it was the best Canada Day she had ever had.
Though games are often considered an activity for the youth to enjoy, Kisbey had people of all ages enjoying the activities of the day.
A show and shine was also held with a variety of vehicles drawing people over to admire and discuss.
Overall the Kisbey Canada Day celebrations were enjoyed by all who attended as they enjoyed great music, fun games, and sharing in their Canadian heritage.
