Kingston Midstream ices victory in Carlyle Oilmen’s Bonspiel

The annual Oilmen’s Bonspiel was held at the Carlyle Curling Club the weekend of Feb. 7 to 9.

         Dave East skipped the Kingston Midstream rink consisting of lead Laura Thompson, second Brandy East and third Devin Brown to the win over the Faber Electric rink to win the 2020 Carlyle Oilmen’s Bonspiel taking the A Event, shaking hands after six ends.

         Winning the B event was the PureChem (Robin) rink skipped by Cody Grimes, Lead Klint Brownridge, Second Robin Brown and Third Jason Yunick, knocking off their company rival, the PureChem (Bruce) rink in a close one.

         Carlyle Hooters showed they could win on the bumpy ice by defeating Nankivell Trucking in the C Event. Skipping the Hooter rink was Ryan Benjamin, with Lead Charity Brown, Second Steve Schultz and Third Mitch Weber.

Each team played four games with the first draw on Friday and continuing on Saturday to determine the seeding for the Sunday playoffs. All games were scheduled for eight ends.

         The Friday night supper of smoked beef and pork tenderloins with all the fixings was catered by Rylan Weir and was sponsored by JJ Trucking. Carlyle Legion served lunch on Saturday and Sunday and PureChem treated the curlers to pizza and wings on Saturday night.

         The bonspiel organizers were Brandy East, Chaelynn Boutin and Laura Thompson.  This year there were 11 teams competing for top honours, and cash prizes.

                  The Calcutta was won by TS & M, while the Hooter Hockey Team rink won the cooler draw and Ryan Benjamin won the gift certificate draw.
