Greetings Observers, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kaitlyn Meisner, and I am a new local freelance reporter at the Carlyle Observer. Ìý

To start off, I’ll tell you a bit of my background. I grew up mostly in Durban, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Africa, as my parents were missionaries there for over eight years. It was in 2018 that my family moved back to Canada and decided to live in Carlyle. Ìý

Writing has always been a passion of mine. In fact, it has always been my dream to write for a living. I have always found it to be the most satisfying thing when I would write and a person could read it and understand me more deeply than if I had tried to talk with them about things.Ìý

At the moment, I am actually pursuing a degree in English at Briercrest College and Seminary and am enjoying being able to improve my skills in writing and editing. I hope as I continue to work at The Observer that these skills will grow even more.Ìý

My interests also include many other things besides writing. I love creating art of various types, and I often enjoy the Homespun Craft Show and Sale that happens in Carlyle, as I like to see Saskatchewan people show off their own talent. I’m also an avid coffee lover (so Michael’s Coffee Shop and Bakery has become a favorite spot for me). Probably one of my greatest interests, however, is literature. I love to read, especially the classics.Ìý

During my whole life, I’ve always loved stories and I was always attracted to the ones that gave hope or helped someone feel connected to others. When I was in Â鶹ÊÓƵ Africa, the news I saw in newspapers was too often stories full of crime, despair, and pain. That’s why some of my favourite stories to write for The Observer are those that make people smile or bring healing and hope. Ìý

I love to connect people through the stories I write and allow the community to feel like they are united. That’s the feeling that I have the most fun creating and hope to share with the readers of The Observer as much as possible. Ìý

Overall, I hope that I will learn a lot while working at The Observer, but most of all, I sincerely hope to write stories that catch your interest and help everyone in Carlyle area to feel more connected and informed.Ìý
