Carlyle Library

The Carlyle Library will be looking into obtaining wireless internet, with a password to be changed daily.

The Library also plans to hold an open house on May 31, to unveil all of the renovations they have now completed.

The Town of Carlyle has decided to provide money to the library at the "essential" level, while they will extend an invitation to the R.M. to extend an invitation to contribute in order to raise the level of contribution by one.

Bylaw No. 2014-05

The first reading of a zoning bylaw allowing new lots in town was read after councillors looked at the changed design since the first time the new private subdivision was presented.

Recreation and Parks Month

June has been proclaimed Recreation and Parks Month by the town council and they have decided to dedicate the Green and Clean kickoff to this initiative. By declaring June as such the Town of Carlyle has a chance to win a play structure as well.

Water line troubles

There is currently an issue surrounding a water line break, which the town repaired that is actually a private line. The town feels they were lucky to have their employees catch the influx of water being used and act quickly in locating the line, but there was treated water lost, town man power used to fix the issue, and the cost to repair the pipe.

The town is fine with absorbing the loss incurred of water and were happy to have donated the man power to have had it fixed; but, the repairs were costly and the private party essentially refused to pay the bill for the other costs incurred in repairing the pipe.

The town will be meeting with the private line owners as well as the businesses along this line to explain why they cannot absorb the cost of repairing it. The council as a whole has a list of other infrastructure concerns within the town like replacing manhole covers, which if they are not reimbursed for the private line they fixed this will have to be held off.

The decision to fix the line themselves came with the want to ensure the businesses didn't go without water for long which would have caused a larger issue in the end.

Carlyle Golf and Country Club

The Carlyle Golf and Country Club, weather pending, was planning on opening on May 9. This date may have changed due to uncontrollable circumstances.

Chamber of Commerce

The Carlyle Chamber of Commerce hosted their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, May 6. They have decided to sponsor part of the Rusty Relics Museum again and will readdress this topic at each AGM, though they are confident they will continue to support the museum and tourist information centre in town.

The Chamber also plans on redoing the "Carlyle Has It" signs on Hwy 13 eastbound as well as Hwy 9 northbound when coming into the town. The signs have fallen into disarray and making them more presentable will hopefully help with tourism and people stopping in Carlyle while travelling.

Fireboard update

The Carlyle Fire Department was thrilled to have received a used water truck from CanElson. The pump on the truck has the ability to suck right out of a dug out unlike their current water truck. The Fire Department plans on both painting the truck and putting lights on it to make it more visible to traffic when it is used in a call.

Centennial Park path

An updated path was looked at being put into Centennial Park as part of the town's initiative to provide a walking path throughout Carlyle. The current path needs its foundation to be rebuilt and the town is looking into either asphalt or a dust sealer to make it a pleasant path to take while on one's bicycle or walking with a stroller. Cost for the construction is still being researched.
