Inaugural Mayor’s Writing Contest open to Weyburn residents

WEYBURN – Mayor Marcel Roy and the City of Weyburn announced the launch of the inaugural Mayor’s Writing Contest, a captivating opportunity for residents to express their creativity through the power of words.

From Aug. 14 to Sept. 29, the contest invites participants to share their stories and imagination, fostering a sense of community and literary exploration.

Aspiring writers, storytellers and wordsmiths are invited to unleash their creativity and contribute to a showcase of their talents in two age categories: Adult, which is 18 years and older, and Youth, ages 12 to 17 years.

Story prompts and detailed guidelines can be found on the City of Weyburn website: www.weyburn.ca/mayors-writing-contest. Participants can submit their entries electronically to [email protected] or drop off copies at City Hall. The deadline to submit is Friday, Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m.

A panel of community judges, including Mayor Roy, will carefully evaluate each entry based on originality, creativity and adherence to theme.

Prizes will be awarded in each category, including certificate of recognition and a cash reward.

Mayor Roy expressed enthusiasm for the contest, stating, "The Mayor's Writing Contest is a platform for our community members to not only showcase their imaginative talents but also to foster a sense of unity through the art of storytelling. We look forward to discovering the narratives that our residents will share."
