Saskatchewan is always referred to as the land of the living skies. People living in the province have worn the slogan on vehicle license plates since 1998. It is now seen on the back of every single registered Saskatchewan vehicle.
While visitors to the province will see a lot of agriculture, Saskatchewan has been diversifying its industrial base in recent years. Forestry, fishing and hunting also make up a small part of the economy. Saskatchewan is the world leader in potash exports and also the western world's major supplier of uranium.
With a larger amount of oil rigger jobs in the past few years, the economic boom became very attractive to outsiders who otherwise may have never noticed the beauty the province offers.
The 2011 census indicated that population growth in the province hit 6.7 per cent over the last five years, compared with a negative growth rate of 1.1 per cent between 2001 and 2006.
Saskatchewan became home to more than 28,000 immigrants between 2006 and 2011, about three times the number of the previous five years, and that isn't even including the 12,000 newcomers from other provinces, that being compared to the loss of 35,000 people between 2001 and 2006.
City TV Saskatchewan, which offers, aired commercial free, educational and cultural programming from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by entertainment programming with advertisements the remainder of the day, was launched on July 1, took high interest in the economic boom. A documentary about Saskatchewan's economy, called The Sky is the Limit, came together and is set to run in September.
The Sky is the Limit is being made by Regina producer Stephen Onda, and will feature a one- hour look at the lives of people living in five major areas of Saskatchewan, and includes a tidbit from the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast area, so look out for people you may recognize.
To this date CityTv was unable to release any of the specifics about companies and who they talked to but the producer did say they are following one story in an Esterhazy Potash mine. They are reporting the stories of the K2 mine resuce team of ordinary people doing extraordinary things prefaced in the mining sector.
