Impact causes train derailment

On January 22nd, 2012 at just after 11:00 pm the Carnduff RCMP detachment received a report of a vehicle colliding with a CP Rail train which caused many of thetrain cars to derail.

On Jan. 22 a pickup truck collided with a CP train, causing train cars to derail. The collision occurred approximately 7 km east of Oxbow.

On January 22nd, 2012 at just after 11:00 pm the Carnduff RCMP detachment received a report of a vehicle colliding with a CP Rail train which caused many of thetrain cars to derail.

A pickup truckheading northbound on a grid roadwas being operated by a 20 year old male from Manorwhen it struck a moving train at a crossing adjacent to highway 18 approximately 7 km east of Oxbow, Sask.

The Oxbow Fire Department responded along with the Oxbow Ambulance. The driver of the pickup was taken to the Oxbow Health Center where he was kept in overnight for observation. He sustained minor non-life threatening injuries.

The impact of the collision caused 22 cars containing light crude oil to derail. A quantity of crude oil has leaked from the six damaged cars. A stretch of Highway 18 was shut down temporarily although none of the cars nor the oil entered the highway. Alcohol is not a factor in the collision.

The Carnduff RCMP detachment and theC.P. Police continue to investigate the incident. Oxbow is located 2 1/2 hours southeast of Regina, Sask.
