ESTEVAN - A recent case of impaired boating in southeast Saskatchewan was highlighted in the Saskatchewan RCMP's weekly report.

The RCMP noted that on July 22, Saskatchewan RCMP Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan officers, as well as conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch, conducted a proactive patrol on a waterway in southeast Saskatchewan.

They observed a houseboat with numerous occupants, and as a result of investigation, charged the operator with impaired operation of a vessel.

In an email to the Mercury, the RCMP confirmed the incident occurred on Boundary Dam and the accused is from Carlyle.

As the long weekend approaches, the Saskatchewan RCMP reminds residents not to operate vehicles or boats while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

“Sometimes we feel like a broken record, but some drivers are still not getting the message that impaired driving is dangerous,” said Sgt. Ian Amundsen from Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services. “So far in July, Saskatchewan RCMP has charged 166 people with Criminal Code impaired driving offences.

"We also issued 162 roadside suspensions to drivers who consumed drugs, whose blood alcohol concentration was between .04 and .08, or who provided a breath sample that was positive for alcohol while being a novice driver.”
