Homespun Craft Show was the recipient of the Saskatchewan Tourism Event of the Year Award 2010 on April 20, 2011. Homespun was identified as one of 40 finalists for the Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence on March 14.

Those nominated for the Event of the Year Award with a budget under $20,000 included the Homespun Craft Show, Sturgeon River Plains Bison Stewards and the Town of Radville 100th Anniversary Celebrations.

Homespun Craft Show was presented with the award in Saskatoon at the Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence Gala. The award, sponsored by Saskatchewan Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport, was an accomplishment for the Homespun committee which was nominated for the award back in January.

Judy Riddell, one of the six board of directors for Homespun, said "We were very excited to win the 2010 award as we go into our 25th year of Homespun. We wouldn't have won the award without the help of current and former board members, and the five-star volunteers that we have here in Carlyle. We wouldn't be at 25 years without them."

"When we were first announced as a finalist, I thought wow! And to be the recipient of the award was beyond our expectations. This is not just an award for the Homespun committee, but an award for all of Carlyle. The hospitality factor of Homespun is a big reason for its success."

"Homespun has become a tourism destination for many individuals. We have people that come from Regina, Yorkton, Brandon and many other places in Manitoba. We are a juried show, so we look for quality and variety. And I think as a result, people have become aware that if they come here for the show, they are going to find something unique and something of quality. We are one of the first shows of the season and have 81 booths available. We have had craftspeople from all across Canada including Newfoundland, Vancouver, and parts of Ontario. In 2010, we had just under 4,000 people attend the event."

In reference to the award gala, Dr. Lynda Haverstock, president of Tourism Saskatchewan said "It will be such a pleasure to pay tribute to these remarkable Saskatchewan 'ambassadors.' The impressive list of finalists speaks to the diverse range of experiences offered here, to a commitment to exceptional service, and to the eagerness to showcase our magnificent home to visitors. The businesses and individuals who will be honoured on April 20 are key players in our sector's growth and success, contributing over $1.6 billion to the economy last year and employing over 62,000 citizens.

"The Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence Gala pays tribute to entrepreneurs, volunteers, businesses and attractions committed to a 'culture of quality' for our sector. It is a privilege to honour those who soar above and beyond expectations to make our province a superb destination. Tourism Saskatchewan is delighted to host this annual celebration. Our congratulations are extended to all of the award recipients and nominees."
